Dana GibsonSpeaker: Dana J. Gibson

Dana J. Gibson serves as the Executive Director of the Information Office for Mission Health System in Asheville, NC. Mission Health System is ranked one of the nation’s “Top 15 Health Systems” by Truven Health Analytics. During her tenure at Mission she has led significant change efforts in the IT fiscal operations as well as developed a Project Management Office, a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification program, launched the system’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) and established the system’s Patient Portal. She is a Healthcare IT leader with over 10 years of experience in creating and implementing information technology strategies, and building effective teams for improved quality initiatives.

Dana assisted in the efforts that helped Mission Health System to earn the Most Wired designation for 6 years in a row as well as achieve the HIMSS Stage 6 award. She redesigned the Mission Health System Health Information Management department into a more efficient, electronic productivity environment. As the Executive Director of the Information Office she has oversight of the HIM department as well as the IT Project Management Office, IT Service Management, the HIE, the Patient Portal, the IT regulatory office, and the IT Procurement and Contract Management office.

Prior to joining Mission is October 2010, Dana served as the Vice President of the Western North Carolina Data Link Health Information Exchange. Data Link was the first HIE in the state of North Carolina and one of 35 in the United States. It was the first regional and sustainable HIE of its time. She also previously held several positions in the Quality and Performance Improvement department within the Mission Health System before leading the regional HIE to its successful terms of operation. Dana earned a magna cum laude designation with her Bachelor of Social Work at Mars Hill University. She earned her Masters of Public Health Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a Green Belt Certification in Lean Six Sigma and also earned the status of a Certified Professional of Health Information Technology (CPHIT).

Community Chapter Meeting 

As a means of helping chapter and local community members who are certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) satisfy the continuing education requirements for re-certification, PMI Metrolina Chapter arranges its monthly meeting schedule to allow a 1 hour PDU training session to be incorporated into its normal meeting.

Topics presented during these sessions are designed to not only satisfy the PDU requirement for re-certifying as a PMP, but to also provide wide appeal to people involved in project management regardless of whether or not they are certified PMPs. The 1-hour sessions meet the educational requirements to qualify for 1 PDU credits for maintaining PMP® certification or to meet the requirement for attending 35 hours of formal project management education prior to applying to sit for the PMP® exam.

The sessions are open to all.
