President's Report

Due to the holiday and summer break, many of the Metrolina communities are taking part if not the entire summer off. Please be aware of this break and check our website calendar for the most up to date information: calendar of events. I hope that you are able to take some time off and spend time with your family and friends if not attending one of our events. In the height of summer, there is much to think about, celebrate and go do:

  • The adoption of the Declaration of Independence took place 242 years ago on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and were no longer part of the British Empire. This is one of 7 holidays that are unanimously observed in all 50 states with federal and state offices closed in observance of the holiday.
  • Most children are out of school on summer break.  Did you know that the origins of the summer holiday break are believed to be rooted in agriculture? It is widely believed that the school calendar follows the agrarian farming calendar because during the settlement of the United States, the nation primarily consisted of a farming population.
  • The chapter will hold elections for 3 members of the Board of Directors. You may remember that we changed the By-Laws a couple of years ago to move to two year alternating terms to allow for congruency on the board. This year, the VP of Finance, VP of Marketing, and VP of Professional Development are all up for re-election. When bios are posted, please review and be prepared to vote for these 2019 – 2020 Board Positions.

As you go forth about your summer schedule, a few words for this time of year…

  • “No other date on the calendar more potently symbolizes all that our nation stands for than the Fourth of July.”  Mac Thornberry, Author
  • “At noon, on the Fourth of July, 1826, while the Liberty Bell was again sounding its old message to the people of Philadelphia, the soul of Thomas Jefferson passed on; and a few hours later John Adams entered into rest, with the name of his old friend upon his lips.” Allen Johnson, Author
  • "America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand." President Harry S. Truman

Highlighting Chapter Activities

Uptown Community had a great session with Dr. Ashley Oliphant as she discussed the project of writing a book and how it aligns with the project management process.  She's written her own book on Ernest Hemmingway and told a compelling story.  Thanks for a great event!
