TOPIC: Beyond Words: Powerful Rapport-Building Techniques That Start with the Mind

SPEAKER:  Karen Smith

Karen Smith is an accomplished professional with 20+ years of hands-on experience and demonstrated success in Fortune 250 companies and entrepreneurial organizations. Industry experience includes technology, hospitality, travel, services, consulting, government, telecom, and education. She is recognized by senior management for resolving large problems by providing structure and innovative approaches with measurable results.

Karen has an acute ability to understand the marketplace and strike the right balance by combining marketing and business / competitive intelligence with project management, thereby creating cross-pollinated, best-in-class ideas and processes. Early in her career, Karen learned about "brain clues" and coupled that knowledge with gaining an understanding of body language. This knowledge has helped her significantly during interview situations – roles ranging from competitive intelligence, to candidate interviews, to marketing persona interviews.

Karen holds an MBA from Baylor University and a BBA in marketing from the University of Texas at Arlington. Additionally, she is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®). Karen is the founder of Mind the Ps Marketing (www.MindthePsMarketing.com) and Next Chapter Moves (www.NextChapterMoves.com).

From the words you choose, to the questions you ask, to your body language, different parts of you speak volumes—although it may not be what you wanted to communicate! Understanding these clues during everyday conversations or negotiations can give you an advantage and help create rapport that builds trust.

 Learn about:

·       The one word that increases the possibility of cooperation from 60% to 94%

·       How you or others express goals (clue: positively or negatively)

·       How you prefer to think (clue: increase pleasure or decrease pain)

·       How you are motivated (clue: necessity or possibility)

·       Body language

Appetizers will be server during the meeting.

Community Chapter Meeting

As a means of helping chapter and local community members who are certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) satisfy the continuing education requirements for re-certification, PMI Metrolina Chapter arranges its monthly meeting schedule to allow a 1 hour PDU training session to be incorporated into its normal meeting.

Topics presented during these sessions are designed to not only satisfy the PDU requirement for re-certifying as a PMP, but to also provide wide appeal to people involved in project management regardless of whether or not they are certified PMPs. The 1-hour sessions meet the educational requirements to qualify for 1 PDU credits for maintaining PMP® certification or to meet the requirement for attending 35 hours of formal project management education prior to applying to sit for the PMP® exam.

The sessions are open to all.
