I see what you are saying: How to communicate better visually

Jim De Piante
Presented by: Jim DePiante

PowerPoint isn't the problem. The problem is that we use it as a verbal tool and not as a visual tool. Communicating visually is much more effective. Our minds assimilate visual information more readily. The conclusions we draw from it are more immediate, more compelling, and more enduring. The principles of visual communication are easily learned and easily applied. It's time to move away from bullet points, words, and numbers, and exploit the power of the image.

I hope to send you all home with a complete understanding the value of and how to effectively apply the principles of visual communication in all of your project communications. Also to communicate more effectively, manage projects more successfully, and to exploit the principles of visual communication and the power of the image.

Jim De Piante is a favorite speaker here at local chapter meetings and at the PMI Global Conference.

A very long time ago, Jim joined IBM as a software engineer. He then became a Project Manager, long before it was cool. While at IBM, Jim managed projects in almost every IBM division, and in a variety of disciplines. His last project at IBM was the IBM Research Jeopardy Challenge project in which the computer Watson defeated the two best players in the history of the television quiz show, Jeopardy.

Jim now runs De Piante International, LLC, a boutique consultancy specializing in improving soft skills in the project context.

Hope to see you at the meeting!

Chapter Meeting Presentations
As a means of helping chapter and local community members who are certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) satisfy the continuing education requirements for re-certification, PMI Metrolina Chapter arranges its monthly meeting schedule to allow a 1.5 hour PDU training session to be incorporated into its normal meeting.

Topics presented during these sessions are designed to not only satisfy the PDU requirement for re-certifying as a PMP, but to also provide wide appeal to people involved in project management regardless of whether or not they are certified PMPs. The 1.5-hour sessions meet the educational requirements to qualify for 1.5 PDU credits for maintaining PMP® certification or to meet the requirement for attending 35 hours of formal project management education prior to applying to sit for the PMP® exam.

The sessions are open to all.
